Family Fun - Part 2

It was Thursday, August 8, and we were headed home to the Keweenaw. That's always a great feeling. We had the vehicle packed with our downstate pantry purchases. . .

but we somehow found enough room for Grace. We weren't about to leave without her, as we were looking forward to her visit ever since she left last year.

I just realized how oddly I cropped the first photo - right down Grace's nose. Oops! Grace kept herself occupied on the trip. Here she is watching a movie on the laptop.

Before we knew it, we were crossing the Mackinac Bridge. . .

and paying the toll.

We were making good time, but our bodies needed a rest, so we stopped at Deer Lake for 30 minutes. This is such a pretty lake, and Grace had good memories here from last year.

She found a frog.

Grandpa played with it.

Grace played with it.

We continued on our journey, and it was evening before we made it home. Grace handles that long trip very well, and she was a tremendous help to Grandpa when unpacking the Traverse. Grandpa had to retrieve Cocoa from the kennel the next morning, and we decided it was a good afternoon to pick thimbleberries. Grace said she wouldn't eat as many this year! Cliff Drive is loaded with thimbleberries, so we did some picking there on the way to the property. Some of the plants get so tall that it was sometimes difficult to see Steve and Grace.

When we did get to the property, we picked along our driveway and took the golf cart for a ride down the road. There's a nearby logging trail with plenty of thimbleberries. That's where Grace spotted this chipmunk sitting on a log.

She tried to get closer, but she spooked him into scampering away. We saw lots of butterflies that day.

Carrie was due to arrive on Monday, August 12, so we had several days alone with Grace. Steve had to spend some time on the property, as the crew was working on our basement, but we had time to do some fun things with Grace, too. We checked out the beach at Eagle River. . .

spent some time at Ten Foot Falls. . .

and took Cocoa to the beach at Calumet Waterworks Park.

During the morning service at church on Sunday, Pastor just happened to be speaking about grace, and all the song selections had grace in their titles. Grace thought that was pretty cool. We were all looking forward to the next day, as Carrie was due to arrive for her first visit to the Keweenaw.

Stay tuned for Part 3.

All is well in the Keweenaw.
