System Snow

That's what the weather dude on our TV channel out of Marquette calls this type of snow event that has gifted us with about 17.5 inches through 8:00 p.m. this evening. (I'm writing this short post after Midnight just before I turn in.) Of course, it has also been blowing around, so it was deeper than that when I went out the back door to feed Cocoa tonight. I shoveled a path from our back door to her house and let her eat inside the back porch again tonight. The snow doesn't seem to bother her, but I think she appreciates eating where the snow isn't piling up on her back!

The snow from this weather system is winding down, but it hasn't stopped. We're told the lake effect snow is now kicking in and will continue. . . and continue. . . and continue. I'm not sure if I'll make it out the front of the house to take out the garbage in the morning. It looks pretty deep out front already. Steve is staying out at the new house, and he had quite a day out there. The new furnace is on this evening, and he says it's feeling good in the new house. The crew is coming back to work on the ceiling tomorrow. They'll shut down the furnace while they're sawing all day, so they'll use 4 or 5 space heaters for warmth.

TV Weather Dude says he looked at U.P. records from 50 and 60 years back. This is the earliest we've ever had a snowstorm with totals this large - at least in the last 50 or 60 years. He'll research that further back in the next few days.

Firearm deer season begins on Saturday. Weather Dude says he thinks the deer will win this year!

It's about 1:00 a.m. now. I'll try to update you later today.

All is well (and white) in the Keweenaw.
