Action-Packed Thursday

I know I've said it before, but I don't think I have a spontaneous bone in my body. I'm a planner by nature. Steve's the same way. Even so, when we had planned to go to Menards in Marquette on Thursday, September 3rd, and the excavator called the night before and said he could come that morning to do the job Steve wanted him to do, we had to go along with it. Since the job was only expected to take a few hours, we figured we could still go to Menards, but we would leave around noon instead.

Of course, things didn't go exactly as planned. The work wasn't quite finished by noon, and Steve noticed a little fluid leaking from our truck. Since that was the vehicle we needed to take to Marquette, the leak made us a little uneasy. By the time Steve came into the house after the excavator left, it was after 2:00 p.m. Did I still want to go? Yep, I was willing if he was willing. So, Steve called the dealership in Calumet and they agreed to take a quick look at the truck. If they said things were OK to go, we would go. I made Steve a ham sandwich to eat on the way to Calumet, grabbed a few items we needed to return to Menards and we were off. The dealership determined that the leak has something to do with the power steering, but they said we were definitely good to go. It was about 3:00 p.m by then.

Traffic wasn't bad on the way to Marquette, and it was a lovely day for a drive - especially along the lake.

We spontaneously stopped at a roadside fruit/vegetable stand near Baraga and purchased some potatoes, apples and tomatoes. (OK, maybe it wasn't completely spontaneous. We had planned to stop at the one in Negaunee, but we stopped at the first one we saw near Baraga instead!)

We made it to Menards in good time.
Naturally, we had discussed our store strategy on our trip to Marquette, so we split up for the first 40 minutes in order to get in and out of the store as quickly as possible.

It still took us 2 hours, plus extra time to load the vehicle at our favorite door - Door #11. Can you see some of the leaves changing across from Door #11?

We got everything on our list. . . and then some.

No trip to Marquette is complete without a trip to Jet's. We called ahead from the vehicle, but Steve still had to wait a bit. He didn't mind, as they had a football game on their TV.

Soon, we were on our way home - driving into the sunset with our BLT pizza and Jet's bread!

We ate some of the bread on the way back and sat down to eat the pizza at home about 11:30 p.m. - after unloading the vehicle. It was a productive day.

All is well in the Keweenaw.
