Sneak Peek Friday - Icing

First of all, after a brief intermission, we're back to monochrome.

The official Keweenaw County total was only 7 inches for this snow/wind event, but Steve (and our driveway) can attest to the fact that we got more than that on our property. That seems to be a pattern this year. (Note: Keweenaw County added another 3 inches to their measurement this morning - bringing their total to 10 - a little closer to what we received at our place.) This snow was the wet, heavy stuff - impossible to push around with the plow without tearing up the stone in the driveway. Steve resorted to driving back and forth - up and down - while the plow was up - basically just making a wide 2-track. The folks in the Keweenaw call that panking it down. Here's how the dining room window looked yesterday morning.

Yeah, not a whole lot of visibility there. I took the next photo after dinner yesterday. Notice how the snow is weighing down the tree branches - especially the shorter clump of trees in the lower right.

We lost power for about 4-1/2 hours yesterday - second morning in a row. Thankfully, the coffee had finished dripping before the power went off. (We weren't quite so lucky the day before.) Do you think maybe I put out those Spring flowers in the can next to the stove just a little too early?

In addition to the icing on the trees outside, I'll show you the icing that has taken place upstairs. (Icing as in the icing on a cake.) As far as the wood in this house is concerned, the door and window trim is the icing. It completes the look - just as icing completes a cake.

The trim around the doors in the loft makes a big difference. Now, let's peek into Guest Bedroom 2 (the one that was mostly finished first).

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the 2 windows before the one on the right was trimmed.

Here's how they look now. Much better.

This room also has a trap door on the low wall on the left. It has been covered with a piece of cardboard (and a painting my late uncle did when he was 18) since we moved in. Steve made a nice access panel to cover the opening, so that cardboard is outta here!

When he has time, Steve's going to make a barnwood frame for the painting, and I'll probably hang it in this room.

No more peeking today.

All is well in the Keweenaw.
